Graphite rods are often used as electric heating elements in high-temperature vacuum furnaces, with a maximum operating temperature of up to 3000℃. They are prone to oxidation at high temperatures and can only be used in neutral or reducing atmospheres except in a vacuum. It has a relatively small coefficient of thermal expansion, a relatively high thermal conductivity, a resistivity of (8~13) ×10-6 Ω·m, better processability than SiC and MoSi2 rods, good high-temperature resistance, excellent resistance to extreme cold and heat, and a relatively low price.
